Woman in Court for Defrauding Job Seekers of Ksh 1.6 Million
A woman has been charged in a Nairobi court for allegedly defrauding job seekers of Ksh 1.6 million.
Christine Ndiloko Nyamai is accused of obtaining the money from Beatrice Njoki Karanja between February 22 and July 19 in Nairobi under false pretenses.
The court heard that Nyamai claimed she could arrange overseas job placements for 45 individuals, convincing Karanja to collect fees from the job seekers.
Karanja, who worked as a marketing influencer for Nyamai’s agency, said she recruited the 45 individuals for jobs as cleaners, drivers, and domestic helpers.
The drivers were each required to pay a facilitation fee of Ksh 100,000, while the cleaners were asked for Ksh 80,000. However, after the applicants submitted their passports and paid the fees, Nyamai allegedly disappeared without fulfilling her promises.
Nyamai denied the charges before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi.
She was granted a bond of Ksh 300,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.
The case is scheduled for mention on September 13.
