Mombasa to Host Mini Sports During the Festive Season

over 4,000  legislators are currently attending the East African Community games

After hosting the 14 edition of Inter-Parliamentary Games at the port city the focus will now be on mini sports along the beaches.

 

Mombasa County Chief officer in charge of tourism Pauline Oginga disclosed that over 4,000  legislators are currently attending the East African Community (EAC) games which are coming to an end this week.

 

She pointed out the number of those attending included non legislators adding that after the games the county will focus on mini sports at Shelly beach,  Nyali beach and Pirates.

 

“The move is to encourage youths to come up with innovative ways of doing things and at the same time compete,” she said.

 

She was speaking during the lighting of this year’s Christmas tree held  at Sapphire hotel in Mombasa county.

 

The tourism county chief officer told the ceremony that the sports festivity is intended to nurture youth talents saying apart from sports they have a food bazaar to show case.

 

Pauline announced the  food bazaar will run during the evening along Moi Avenue and roads will be closed.

 

She also announced they have organized cooking competition as part of the climax of the food bazaar.

 

The hotel general manager John Yegow has appealed to the county government to ensure all street lights are working.

 

He said that currently what the sector is asking  from the county is to ensure street lights are operational.

 

“Let security apparatus ensure there is maximum security for the guests during this festive season,” he said.
