Mt.Elgon To Host State Of Art Athletic Training Centre
Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba has pledged to upgrade and equip Mt. Elgon’s Chemoge High Altitude Training Centre to a National Training Centre.
Speaking at Banantega in Mt. Elgon during the national tree plating exercise, Ababu observed that the facility is strategically located with a capacity to cater for local and national athletes.
“We are going to equip this facility and give it a complete face lift. It’s one of a kind in the country,” he affirmed.
He committed, through his Sports Ministry, to ensuring the completion of sports facilities across the country to ease congestion at Iten, in Elgeyo Marakwet County, and other regions.
“The projects earmarked for completion include Chemoge High Altitude Training Centers, which will serve our sportsmen and women. It will ease congestion, ignite the local economy, and bring investment opportunities to the region,” he reiterated.
The training camp is a state-of-the art facility with a gym, hostels, cafeteria, VIP rooms, cafeteria guiding, and counseling, among others.
Chemoge High Altitude Training Centre is among the projects initiated between 2013 and 2017 under Governor Lusaka’s first tenure.
