PDU won’t field a presidential candidate in 2022

The Party of Democratic Unity (PDU) has said it will not field a presidential candidate in 2022.

According to national chairman Isaiah Gichu in an interview with the media on Sunday, he said that they will shelve the position but field on other categories.

He said that they will support whoever will have manifestos similar to what they support as a party.

Gichu said that the party will field candidates in all the other elective positions in a bid to foster partnerships with like-minded political parties.

About two months ago, the PDU party signed a partnership with 7 like-minded parties to form the Mount Kenya Unity forum.

“PDU party will field candidates in the position of governor, senators, woman representatives, MP and MCas in that order but we won’t have presidential candidate,” Gichu said.

He also said that they won’t limit their members to support the presidential candidate of their choice in 2022.

Gichu said the call for the aspirants who will be seeking various elective positions to reach them through their website or visit their office.

“We will ensure democracy is fully exercised and all our candidates will have a choice to support their preferred presidential candidates, “he said.

Former prime minister Raila Odinga and UDA party leader William Ruto are among those who have declared interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

PDU declaration of not fielding a presidential candidate just two months after Third way Alliance said it won’t field a presidential candidate in 2022.

Third way Alliance secretary-general Fredrick Okango said in a statement that instead, the party will field candidates in all the other elective positions.

“We never stop trying to build a more perfect union hence the reason we as Third way Alliance Kenya will NOT be fielding a Presidential candidate in 2022 but rather, we will be fielding candidates.”

PNU party during their recent event, hinted of supporting former prime minister Raila Odinga 2022 to form the next government.
