Governor Ole Lenku Issues Clarification Over Paai Bridge
This morning, we received a report on the impassibility of the recently commissioned Paai Bridge which is still undergoing final touches.
Works on the bridge started in May 2021.
Upon the site visit, our engineers have found that the Design and Construction period was well managed and quality control was well structured and documented.
However, the bridge has experienced a TILT OF THE PIER which has rendered the bridge immotorable currently.
The BRIDGE HAS NOT BEEN SWEPT AWAY as erroneously reported in some social media platforms.
The tilt of the pier has been caused by the unprecedented heavy flow of flash floods on River Olkeriai, one of the biggest rivers in Kajiado County.
The heavy rains diverted the already swollen river to one side of the pier thus exerting pressure on the pier causing it to tilt on one side.
The Contract for the bridge is within the DEFECT LIABILITY PERIOD and we have therefore DIRECTED the contractor to commence the reconstruction of the pier with immediate effect.
We have further mobilized our Engineers and Consultants to assess the situation fully and give us a detailed report by next Monday.
We call for patience from the users of the bridge as we strive to restore its motorability in the shortest time possible.
