POMAC Digitizes Pardon Process
By Martin Masinde
The Power of Mercy Advisory Committee has digitised the pardon process in the country in a bid to make the process more efficient.
This, is, of course under the meticulous leadership of Dr. Lydia Muriuki.
She says the organisation is working on reintegration process of the released inmates so that they can be accepted back to the community.
“This, we are doing by following closely recommendations of a taskforce that touches on rehabilitation. We are also partnering with the National and County Government towards this cause. We wouldn’t want these people to relapse into crime,” the down-to-earth CEO said.
On the same breath the Chief Executive distanced power of mercy committee from the recent erroneous reports in a cross section of the media.
Dr. Lydia clarified, “The ex-prisoner, Ephantus Kiura Ndambiri was released on 17.5.2022 after serving his prison term.
He was convicted of the Offence of Creating Disturbance and sentenced to 6 months in prison. During sentencing, his case was referred for Probation Officer’s Report on 5.1.2022 and consequently convict for 6 months on 17.2.2022. and released on 17.5.2022. He had been released after completing the six months prison term.
He was not a beneficiary of the Presidential pardon on Madaraka Day.”
In her conclusion, Dr Lydia cautioned against the released inmates not to relapse into crime saying the long arm of the law will quickly catch up with them.
“We encourage them to shed the ‘old man’ in them and adapt a new lifestyle of integrity and that way they will start life afresh and be good people in the society.
