Confusion at Nairobi County as CEC Reverses Governor Kananu’s Directive
Confusion has rocked the Nairobi County Assembly after a move by Governor Anne Kananu to reshuffle the cabinet was revoked by a County Executive Committee member.
In an earlier directive the governor had reshuffled her government a move that saw Chief Finance officer Mohamed Sahal removed from his position as head of county treasury and replaced by Joseph M Gathiaka.
However, in a new twist that has left staff at the City County offices confused, the directive by Governor Kananu to reshuffle her Cabinet was overridden by Finance CEC Allan Igambi.
In a letter from the Finance and Planning department, Igambi reinstated the CFO who has been holding the office in an acting capacity.
“We have today submitted withdrawal rights for Mohamed Abdi Sahal to your esteemed office. After considering internal logistical and administrative challenges we will face with this change, we would like to recall the forms and maintain status quo,” read the directive.
The recent tussle comes in the back of a troubled City Hall, on Monday, normal county services were interrupted as county workers started their strike.
Among the issues the workers decried were persistent salary delays, failure to complete promotions of all eligible staff and unwillingness to finalise a collective bargaining agreement, perennial electricity disconnections and intermittent NHIF medical cover due to failure to pay premiums and remit monthly deductions.
