Relocation of Hawkers in Nairobi’s CBD to Commence Soon

Nairobi County Executive for Hustlers and Business Opportunities, Ms Maureen Njeri on Monday, toured the backlanes in the Nairobi CBD where about 6,500 hawkers will be relocated to in the coming months.

The Cec said with the new move by Governor Sakaja,to relocate the hawkers in the cbd will create order in the cbd.

Mrs Njeri further said that ,Governor Sakaja wants small time traders to flourish under his leadership and at the same time order to be in the city.

“The Nairobi City County government has initiated the process of relocating informal traders operating within the cbd to the back lanes ,”She said.

The Cec further noted that the prototype lanes will have sheds erected and electricity installed to improve the working conditions of traders,and this will also ensure they trade in a dignified manner.

Other areas within Cbd earmarked for this exercise include Sotik,Turkana, Dubois ,Posta,and Kirinyaga among others.
