KAREU MPYA Holds Tournaments In The Peace Sustainability Quest

Women in the Jua Kali sector and boda boda riders in Mt. Elgon Sub County have been challenged to be peace ambassadors within the region.
This has been the agenda of Kenya Agriculture Reforms Elgon United (KAREU MPYA CBO), which held a peace volleyball tournament among small-scale business women popularly known as ‘mama mboga’ and boda boda riders at Kapsokwony on Wednesday.
Speaking during the climax of the friendly matches, Bishop Dickson Nandi, liaison officer at KAREU, affirmed their unending support for peace and sustainability across the Sub County.
“Today we have decided to hold this tournament in Elgon ward; on Tuesday we were at Kopsiro and at Cheptais on Monday; all these are in the quest to preach peace among ourselves and lead by example,” reiterated Nandi.
According to statistics, boda boda riders and mama mboga interact with at least 100 people each day, making them the most preferred in the dissemination of peace to the masses.
The participants in the matches were drawn from different locations in Elgon, including Labaa, Chemweisus, and Kapsokwony.
The winners were awarded a cash award of Ksh. 5,000, Ksh. 4000 to the first runners-up, and Ksh. 3500 to the second runners-up.
