Sonko calls on Dorcas Oduor to help Ruto solve history injustices once in office

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has called on Dorcas Oduor who is poised to take over as the new Attorney General to help President William Ruto come up with a strategic plan on how to amicably solve all the historical injustices in the country.

 

Sonko who has been a champion of social and economic justice in the both in public and court has hailed the nomination and subsequent approval of Oduor,noting that her appointment underlines Kenya’s fast growing democratic space.

 

He has however called on the new AG to be cautious of the daunting task ahead, calling on her to focus on devising advisory on historical injustices on land,natural resources, equitable shairing of resources, nepotism and tribalism.

 

” I want to congratulate the National Assembly Committee on Appointments for approving the nomination of Dorcas Oduor and Beatrice Askul as Attorney General and East African Community Affairs and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary nominees respectively,”

” My advise to Oduor is to focus on advising the government and President William Ruto on historical injustices and how we can settle these issues once and for all,” he added.

 

Sonko who talked to the media on Tuesday said most Kenyans have teething land related problems that need a clear roadmap,advisory and direction from the office of the AG.

 

” I have myself fought so many land related cases in efforts to help Kenyans who have no connections and what I realised that we have a deep underlying problem that needs serious intervention from government and the President to be specific,” he said.

 

Oduor is poised to take over after the committee’s report was tabled in the National Assembly by Minority leader Junet Mohamed.

 

“This house approves the appointment of the following persons, Beatrice Askul Moe as Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development and Dorcas Oduor as the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya,” Junet said.

Oduor was until her nomination the Secretary Public Prosecutions. Once appointed, she will become the Kenya’s first female Attorney General.

Amongst cases the AG nominee has prosecuted include the 1998 Nairobi bombing, that led to the death of 200 people and the Chris Okemo extradition case.

 

Oduor also served in the Police task force that birthed the Independent Police Oversight Authority. Once appointed, the two will form part of President Ruto’s newly reconstituted Cabinet.

 

Sonko said he is a staunch supporter of women taking over leadership roles,noting that he himself led by example when he nominated Ann Kananu as Deputy Governor for Nairobi.Kananu would later go on to become the first female governor of Nairobi.
