Gachagua Details Attempts On His Life In Letter To Police IG Kanja

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has written to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, claiming that his life is in danger.

Dated Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the letter titled ‘Assassination Attempts and Violence Against My Life’, posted on the former DP’s social media handles, points out various instances where he claimed he was targeted.

According to Gachagua, on November 28, 2024, while attending a funeral in Limuru, he was attacked and his vehicle was destroyed. He wondered why action had not been taken against the perpetrators.

He went on to claim that on December 28, 2024, in Shamata, Nyandarua County, a teargas canister was lobbed at a function he attended, and the person behind it was apprehended. He again wondered why the said person, whom he claimed was a police officer, was not disciplined.

Further, Gachagua informed the IG that his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, was compelled to scamper for safety after a rowdy group stormed a prayer meeting she had organised. Gachagua claimed that to date, no action had been taken.

He listed all the instances where he claimed his life was targeted, including the recent attack during a church service and questioned IG’s silence on the matter.

“You are aware that there have been deliberate plans to attack my homes in Nairobi, Nyeri and my properties across the country by individuals well known to you. You are aware that security agencies have been trailing me with marked and unmarked vehicles,” Gachagua’s letter read in part.

Gachagua who has intensified his criticism on President William Ruto, is demanding security in all public gatherings he is set to attend across the country and has directed the police boss to reinstate his full security as prescribed in the law.

“Cease and desist from interfering with peaceful gatherings of citizens. Stop with immediate effect NIS officers and other security agencies from stalking and trolling me and my family members,” Gachagua demanded.
