Extending Presidential Term to 7 Years: A Christian Call Rooted in the Sacred Significance of the Number Seven

As debates around constitutional reforms resurface, a unique argument has emerged from parts of the Christian community: extend the presidential term to seven years, a number deeply symbolic in the Christian faith.
Biblically, the number seven represents divine perfection and completeness seen in the seven days of Creation, and repeated throughout scripture.
Proponents believe a seven-year term could offer leaders enough time to implement policies effectively, foster national unity, and govern with stability mirroring the biblical cycle of fullness and renewal.
Rev. Samuel Otieno explains, “Seven isn’t just symbolic; it reflects spiritual completeness. A nation built on such principles could benefit from morally grounded leadership.”
Nandi Senator Samson Cheragei, a UDA senator pushing for the change in term limits said the push to extend term limits is grounded in both religious and practical reasoning.
“Seven years is a holy number for us Christians,” Cherargei explained.
He further expressed concern over what he described as a culture of perpetual electioneering in the country. According to him, the current five-year term does not provide sufficient time for elected leaders to fully implement their development agendas.
However, experts have warned against relying solely on religious symbolism for constitutional changes.
