Raila Meets Partner of Firm Set to Construct 440 km Nairobi-Mombasa Usahihi Expressway from 2026

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Friday met former US Ambassador Kyle Mccarter in Nairobi, a meeting the two discussed issues on the African continent’s infrastructure.
Mccarter is a partner at Everstrong Capital, a US-based infrastructure investment firm securing funding for the $3.5 billion (Sh452 billion) Usahihi Expressway, whose construction is set to kick-off next year, 2026.
Usahihi Expressway Limited, the project developer backed by US-based Everstrong Capital, is completing the project’s feasibility study next month and will be requesting final approval from the National Treasury Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) Unit to begin work.
“We are finishing the feasibility study in May, and we will ask the National Treasury PPP Unit for their final approval. Then, we expect to reach financial close by the end of the year, with an eye on starting construction next year,” said Kyle McCarter, the company chairman.
The Usahihi Expressway is a 440km Expressway connecting Nairobi and Mombasa. The project aims to reduce travel time between the two cities to 4.5 hours, boost regional trade, and unlock economic opportunities along the Northern Corridor and is expected to be completed in approximately four years.
President Ruto unveiled the Usahihi Nairobi to Mombasa Expressway, during his visit with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, while visiting the White House on Thursday the 23rd of May 2024.
The Usahihi expressway is the largest toll road project in Africa.
