Blood Parliament: Trigger Happy Officers Exposed In Explosive Documentary on 2024 Anti-Finance Bill Protests

Trigger-happy officers in  Kenya’s security forces who shot dead anti-tax protesters at parliament buildings last June during the anti-finance bill protests have been identified.

An explosive documentary by the BBC’s Africa Eye, dubbed ‘Blood Parliament,  revealed more than 5,000 images were analyzed to find that the protesters were unarmed and posed no threat when they were killed.

Using the metadata obtained from the videos, photos,  and cameras from the protests,  the BBC’s Africa Eye team was able to build a detailed timeline, focusing on three killings and traced the fatal shots back to a police officer and a soldier.

An officer John Kaboi based at the Central Nairobi Police Station has been identified as the one who gave shoot to kill orders.

According to the documentary, David Chege, a 39-year-old software engineer and Sunday-school teacher, and Ericsson Mutisya, a 25-year-old butcher, were shot dead. Five other men were wounded, one of whom was left paralysed from the waist down.

“The video is very clear,” says Faith Odhiambo, president of the Law Society of Kenya.

“The aim was to kill those protesters. They could have had him arrested. But the fact that you shoot his head – it was clearly an intention to kill. You have become the judge, the jury and the sentence executioner for Eric.”
