Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced the government has captured the capitation aspect in this financial year.
He said the ministry has been allocated sh 610 billion during the 2024 and 2025  financial year.
“This sum of amount will go into education’s various aspects, mainly on  capitation,” he pointed out.
Machogu said the allocation of funds will cater for teachers’ salaries among other things.
He spoke during Tana Delta sub county education day in Tana River County.
The CS said on capitation each sub county will receive substantial amount of funds for tuition and operations.
Machogu sought to put the record straight by pointing out that this will be the case for both primary and secondary education during the 2024 and 2025 financial year.
He disclosed that last year the government launched a new financing model.
“This was different from the differentiated unit cost [DUC] which was based on capitation model to universities,” he explained.
The Education Cabinet Secretary explained the new university funding     model will ensure equitable contribution from households.
Machogu further said this is on scholarship from universities fund and loan from the higher education loans board.
He said it aims at relieving financial burden on families with the ministry having successfully implemented government programs.
“This includes the administration of Kenya National Examinations Council [KNEC] examinations,” he stated.
