Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has launched a scathing attack on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala, accusing him of holding secret meetings aimed at undermining Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies in Kirinyaga County.
In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday, Maina claimed that Malala met a group of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Governor Anne Waiguru at Golden Palm Hotel in Kenol between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM on Wednesday night.
According to Maina, the meeting’s agenda was to “create a splinter group to fight H.E. Rigathi Gachagua’s foot soldiers” in the county. She further alleged that Malala facilitated the MCAs in attendance with Kshs. 20,000 each, money she claimed was sourced from individuals “who seek to derail the agenda of the people and the united alternative government.”
“I do not know who you work for, nor do I want to speculate,” Maina said in her statement. “You are aware that we have had private meetings over this issue, so excuse my lack of discretion on this as you’ve now crossed the rubicon.”
The Woman Representative accused Malala of perpetuating corrupt tendencies, referencing his tenure as secretary general in his former party. “You infamously had the bad habit, as SG in your former party, of soliciting money from everyone and anyone for favors. Unfortunately, it seems that you have not changed one bit,” she charged.
Maina warned Malala that she was ready for a political showdown, declaring, “Bring it on, you shall face off with me where the rubber meets the road. In case you forgot, where I come from, we milk lions while seated on porcupines.”
Her remarks come amid growing tensions within the United Opposition with growing mistrust between members and other affiliate parties.
Malala has not yet publicly responded to the allegations. However, the claims are expected to heighten political friction within the DCP party, particularly in the Mount Kenya region.
