The Kenya African National Union (KANU) is in the process of reclaiming its properties countrywide which is at an advanced stage.
The Party’s Director of Organization Job Waka said they have put in place the best legal team in the fight to reclaim the party’s properties countrywide.
He pointed out that KANU is the only party which has a national outlook and with structures in place compared to other political parties countywide.
“The plot on which the Kenyatta International Convention Centre [KICC] was built is owned by Kanu,” he pointed out.
Job said the market value of the 10-acre plot on which the controversial building was constructed is over Sh 10 billion.
He spoke during a one-day Kanu county branch retreat held at PrideInn Flamingo Beach Resort – Hotel in Mombasa County which was organized by The Oslo Centre.
The KANU Director of Organization said the party headquarters is in possession of the plot’s title deeds.
Job said the plot was issued during the late Jomo Kenyatta’s regime and refuted claims it was issued during the late Daniel Arap Moi’s regime.
He insisted it was wrong to assume that the title to the controversial plot was issued during the Nyayo administration.
“The KICC was constructed through taxpayers’ money and not funds from KANU,” he said.
The KANU official told the forum the party has embarked on a massive recruitment of members ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Job pointed out the massive drive targets vibrant youths and women who were born after Kanu’s exit from power.
He pointed out the party is committed to recruit members who are committed to past values and ideology.
“We are going to ensure party old members are married with the newly-injected blood during the exercise,” he said.
The Kanu official told the meeting, they are coming up with new disciplinary measures to deal with errant members as the current structures are weak.
On her part, KANU Mombasa county chapter chairperson Rukia Rashid said the branch is coming up with a skills empowerment program.
