Governor Johnson Sakaja has told his newly appointed chief officers to align themselves with his manifesto and focus on service delivery to Nairobi residents.
He emphasized on the need for the chief officers to understand the manifesto and familiarize themselves with his government operations while executing their roles.
“I take this opportunity to welcome you and let you familiarize yourselves with our manifesto, the pressing tasks ahead and the need to focus on service delivery in line with the manifesto,” said the governor.
Mr Sakaja said this at City Hall when he handed the officers their mandates in vital sectors of the county government.
The six chief officers were approved by a special sitting of Nairobi City County Assembly that was convened on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 giving the governor a nod to appoint them.
Mr Sakaja told the officers to work closely with the County Executive Committee Members and other departmental officers.
“I urged all of you to work with County Executive Committee Members and other officers in their respective departments with your main focus being on service delivery to Nairobians”, said the governor.
However, the county assembly is yet to render its decision on the nominee for Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr Halkano Dida Wako.
Mr Wako was vetted by the House Committee on Planning and Housing but his report was not been tabled before the Assembly during the special sitting.
The chairman of the House Committee on Planning and Housing, which is seized of the nominee’s report, Mr Alvin Palapala informed the Assembly the report was not ready due to “some technicalities”.
The new chief officers are:
– Former Baringo county Woman Representative, Ms Gladwell Cheruiyot – Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources.
– Ms Amina Mohammed – Wellness, Nutrition, and School Feeding.
– Mr David Sande Oyolo – Digital Economy and Startups.
– Former deputy governor Machakos county, Mr Bernard Muia Kiala – Boroughs and Sub-County Administration.
– Former County Executive Committee Member Kiambu county, Mr Machel Waikenda – Economic Affairs; and
– Ms Jane Wangui – Markets and Trade.
Governor Sakaja congratulated the chief officers on their appointment during the ceremony held at City Hall on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 and said they were all picked on merit.
He held an inaugural meeting with the new chief officers. It was attended by Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri and the acting County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Planner Patrick Analo.
Governor Sakaja is currently engaged in his ruling United Democratic Party (UDA) campaigns, eyeing the Nairobi branch chairmanship. He faces Embakasi North MP Mwangi Gakuya.
