Kenya’s leading hygiene brand, Dettol, hosted an enlightening masterclass in Nairobi to educate attendees on achieving healthy, glowing skin and to introduce its newly reformulated Dettol Skincare soap.

The event featured Dettol Skincare’s new brand ambassador, Sarah Hassan, and included remarks from Reckitt Country Manager Asif Hashimi. Hashimi highlighted the opportunity for attendees to learn from health experts about skin nurturing and the benefits of moisturization. “We continuously innovate and enhance our products to maintain a top position in the market in terms of quality. Dettol Skincare takes skincare to a completely different level as part of that innovation,” said Hashimi.

Themed “Nurturing Your Skin: The Power of Moisturization,” the event brought together dermatologists, beauty educators, influencers, and enthusiasts. “Dry skin can bring on signs of aging very quickly, such as wrinkles and fine lines, making someone look older than they are. Well-moisturized skin gives a natural glow, eliminating the need for extensive makeup,” said Fidelia Mwende Nguli, a skincare and beauty expert.

Dr. Tauhida Mbarak, a skin aesthetician, emphasized the impact of diet on skin health. “Some people go eight or nine hours a day without drinking water and consume a lot of junk food, neglecting a balanced diet that includes greens and fruits. Additionally, using poor-quality cosmetics, which often flood the black market with high levels of hydroquinone and mercury, damages melanocytes – the skin cells responsible for color. This can cause the skin to swell and wrinkle, making a 20-year-old look like they are 56.”

In addition to its high level of moisturization, Dettol Skincare soap keeps the skin beautifully hydrated and healthy while protecting it 99.9% from disease-causing germs and bacteria. “We always advise our clients to use products that are effective for their skin types. As a formulator, I have reviewed the ingredients and I am impressed by Dettol because it contains glycerin, which is a gold standard moisturizing agent,” added Dr. Mbarak.

According to Beauty Africa, skincare products represent the largest and most diverse segment of the cosmetic market in Africa. As Africa’s beauty and personal care sector evolves, driven by consumer preferences and product innovations, the variety of skincare products available caters to different skin types, including normal, dry, oily, and sensitive skin. Nearly 30 percent of all cosmetic products sold annually in this market fall into the skincare category, encompassing body lotions, moisturizers, cleansers, toners, anti-acne, anti-aging, and facial products.
