Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told secondary schools head teachers the government counts on their support in the education sector systems.
He argued that the secondary schools head teachers are part and parcel   of the education sector systems in the country.
“We can’t transform the country when the critical population of teens and youth drink themselves to destruction,” he pointed out.
Gachagua added the  population of teens and youths drink themselves to the extent of self-destruction.
He was speaking during the official opening of the 47th annual Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) cum Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) national conference held at Sheikh Zayed hall in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.
The DP told the principals attending the five-day conference especially those from the arid and semi arid areas that he understands better that last year’s prolonged drought had negatively impacted learning.
He added that in the same way enhanced rains also interrupted schooling, and passionately appealed to the delegates attending the annual forum to join the government in planting more tree seedlings.
“Especially food trees to boost our climate resilience,” he pointed out.
Gachagua asked the almost 10,000 schools principals in attendance the government, through relevant agencies, is keenly awaiting the output at the end of the conference.
He reminded them the government is listening to them because they want them to succeed and not to fail.
“I therefore invite you for robust discussions for student-centred  approach in the implementation of the reforms in the sector,” he pointed out.
