Mombasa members of county assembly [MCA’s] have come out to defend their party leader Raila Odinga over his remarks calling for the embracing of dialogue with the government to chart the way forward.

Led by county speaker Aharub Khatri they said Raila’s remarks have been blown out of proportion.

Aharub insisted there is no harm in having a dialogue where people either disagree or agree for peace, harmony and stability to prevail.

“Kenyans have no spare country to hide when hell breaks loose,” he pointed out.

Aharub said dialogue to chart the way forward is a conversation forum.

He was addressing the media outside county assembly offices at Town Hall in Mombasa county.

The county speaker told journalists Raila’s remarks were informed by his political experience and background knowledge.

Aharub urged for the embracing of dialogue before seeking for an alternative avenue.

He said the country will use an alternative avenue when dialogue fails to bear fruit.

Deputy Speaker Fadhili Makaran described pressure by the youths against the government as a wake up call for the political class in the country.

He said the anti-government protests which took place three weeks ago serve as a lesson for the country to learn to embrace change of leadership style.

“I am optimistic the Orange Democratic Movement [ODM] as a party will take disciplinary action against legislators who voted yes and who were against the withdrawal of the unpopular Finance Bill 2024 as they went against the party stand,” he pointed out.

The Deputy Speaker said Raila had called for dialogue as ODM leaders urged the youths to rally behind his calls and to give dialogue a chance.

Fadhili defended Raila’s call which he said will enable the country to move forward and have a positive engagement.

He said the youths must have a roundtable talk to be listened to.
