Railways MD Philip Mainga voted most improved Parastatal Director

Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga has been voted the most improved Parastatal head in the country.

A poll conducted by Precision Analytics Kenya ( P.A.K) has seen Kenya Railways ranked as the most improved with Mainga emerging as the most consistent, innovative and committed director who has transformed the once troubled transport agency.

Mainga who took over the reigns in 2018 was voted for improving services among them; improving the Standard Gauge Railway mode of transport,changed face of SGR by introducing new seating arrangements, introduced premium class coaches,improved efficiency in commuter trains in Nairobi and being sensitive to gender equality in staff recruitment.

 

Majority of the people polled in Nairobi and Mombasa said Kenya Railways has grown to new levels and has helped to offer alternative transport solutions.

60% of commuter train users in Nairobi said service deliyans efficiency has improved in the last three years while 30% offered suggestions on what should be improved.

This comes two days after KR unveiled new wagon for the Ksh1, 500 economy class of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) trains.

The wagons have new features which include charging ports for each passenger; a baby-changing area to help mothers freshen up their babies, foldout ray tables for freshening up babies during the journey; foldout tray tables and pocket seats for placing small items.

They have new seating arrangements where one row of seats will be facing the destination while the other faces the departing destination.

Instead, the 3 by 2 seating arrangement across the width of the coach will have passengers facing either the departing station or the destination station,” read the statement in part.

This is under the new premium trains which will be charged at Ksh12, 000 between Nairobi and Mombasa.

Kenya Rural Road Authorities ( KeRRA),Kenya Urban Road Authorities ( KURA) were also ranked among the best.

The survey focused on leadership experience of Director Generals in Kenyan Parastatals aimed to understand the challenges and successes faced by leaders in Kenya’s parastatals.
