Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto has disclosed that the sh 40 billion Kipevu Oil Terminal (KOT) facility at the port of Mombasa which was commissioned in 2022 has greatly boosted its capacity.
He added that this is in handling petroleum products in the region and streamlining marine oil terminals’ operations and “creating synergy, enhancing safety and operational excellence.”
Captain Ruto said the foregoing has enhanced provision of quality services that meet world class standards.
He made the remarks during the reception of MV Navig8 Martinez with the first consignment of Uganda fuel at the Kipevu Oil Terminal (KOT) facility in Mombasa County.
The KPA MD said apart from making the port facility attain world class standards they aim at providing avenue to optimize resources to reduce petroleum tanker vessels delays.
He pointed out this is also to improve turnaround time and eliminate demurrage.
“The presence of our two ministries is therefore a testament to the strong collaboration between our two countries in advancing the energy sector,” he painted out.
The KPA boss acknowledged the state-of-the-art Kipevu Oil Terminal (KOT) facility has enhanced the port’s capacity to discharge oil products in a timely and efficient manner significantly.
Captain Ruto said this has eased the pressure aggravated by increasing demand in the region.
