Uganda Seeks Support for Policy Implementation via National Oil Company

Uganda’s Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa has called on oil stakeholders in the country to support their government to implement its policy change through the Uganda National Oil Company [UNOC].

She cited the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority [EPRA] and Kenya Pipeline Company Limited [KPC] including the state department to implement the policy.

“We have learned some good lessons and enhanced our understanding of challenges,” she stated.

Ruth added the challenges facing the importation of petroleum products  include the enduring of the prolonged negotiations that resulted in the achievements they have made.

She made her remarks during the commencement of importation of direct refined petroleum products by the Uganda National Oil Company [UNOC]  at the reception of MV Navig8 Martinez at the Kipevu Oil Terminal (KOT) facility in Mombasa County.

The visiting Minister said this includes securing of the importation, wholesale and export of refined petroleum products from EPRA.

Ruth added this also included the signing of the transportation and storage  agreement between KPC and UNOC.

She pointed out the signing of the tripartite agreement between her  government and the Kenya government and UNOC.

‘’Agreeing to delivery dates ranges for the first UNOC imports to commence this month to which here we  witness and commemorate,” she pointed out.

In his welcome remarks Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto revealed  the  performance of 2023 /2024 annual turn out of the petroleum product  was  9,636 .098 metric tones.
