Misappropriation of Funds Ignited my Dream to be MP
By Isabella Maua
With 40 days to the D day, it is all systems go for politicians as each one of them struggles to put the best foot forward and ensure their numbers are secured.
Contrary to the mass mentality that Sabaot people were known for, the community is steadily but surely taking a U turn and against all odds clan politics is losing popularity.
Allan Chemaiyek, Mt.Elgon MP Aspirant who is in a tightly contested two horse race with the incumbent Fred Kapondi has proven beyond all odds that the regional politics is not going to be business as usual.
The once little known youthful aspirant who decided to take the bull by its horns and battle it out squarely with Kapondi during UDA nominations is once again giving the other 14 aspirants sleepless nights as he seems to gain people’s favour especially in Elgon ward and Kaptama wards which he originally hails from.
Having being Webuye CDF Fund Manager, Allan has cited that the greatest force behind his determination to become the area legislator is the profound misappropriation of CDF funds in his homeland.
“I have worked outside my home but I know where the shoe pinches most when it comes to my people; poor school infrastructure and favoritism in bursary allocation has long killed the dreams of many children,” Allan lamented.
The accountant, who asserts to hold the key to the change of the mountain, has vowed to leave everything behind and fight for the poor and marginalized in society despite the fact that he is an independent candidate.
Speaking at Chepkui area, one of the most backward regions in Elgon ward, Allan promised to return the favor of many votes garnered during party primaries by completing Chepkui Primary School, ensuring construction of feeder road to the schools around and ensure electricity reach the area.
“I know this area is rocky and not that fertile so I will ensure to be steadfast in relocation of farmers to Trans Nzoia once I capture this seat, for those who will remain, I will see to it that you get sufficient clean tapped water,” Allan affirmed.
The principal concluded by promising to fight for constituency demarcation so as to secure more CDF funding to cater for the ever growing population.
