Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has announced that the absence of a Form One class in 2025 marks a significant shift in the structure of senior secondary education.

Speaking during the release of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at New Mitihani House, Nairobi, Migos explained that the change is due to the exit of the last cohort of KCSE candidates, leaving senior secondary classes streamlined to Form Two, Form Three, and Form Four.

“Our first Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) cohort, currently in Grade 9, will transition to Grade 10 in 2026,” Migos stated. He emphasized that this transformation marks a turning point for the secondary education sub-sector, which is undergoing major adjustments after more than 30 years of the 8-4-4 system.

The CS called for urgent measures to prepare senior schools for the incoming CBC pioneers and underscored the importance of readiness for the system’s phased implementation.

Migos also confirmed that the final KCSE examinations will be conducted before the 2027 general elections, marking the end of an assessment system in place for 35 years.

“I want to sincerely thank all education stakeholders who have supported the government throughout this journey,” Migos said.

He further announced the release of results for 962,512 candidates, all of whom are cleared to join various higher learning institutions to pursue their chosen careers.
