ODM Wars: Raila Jr Throws Weight Behind Babu Owino After Father Endorsed Sakaja

Raila Odinga Jr says he is standing with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino following his father, Raila Odinga’s endorsement of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to take care of the capital city in his absence.
On Monday, while speaking at the Bomas of Kenya during prayers for his AUC chairmanship bid, Mr. Odinga told ODM supporters.
“I want Nairobi to remain united and strong. My son here will take charge,” Raila said, pointing at Governor Sakaja during a prayer meeting organized by ODM Women.
Sakaja is a member of the ruling UDA party.
Babu Owino has previously expressed his interest in unseating Governor Sakaja via an ODM ticket, and decamping to the orange party with Raila’s blessings is likely to complicate matters for the Embakasi East lawmaker.
“Regarding Governor Johnson Sakaja being favored by Raila Odinga, as I mentioned earlier, a father may love one child more than the other in a household. However, it is unfortunate that this child is not from our house but rather a neighbor’s child,” Babu Owino said in a past interview after getting reports of Sakaja’s plans to decamp from UDA to ODM.
