Governor Sakaja Fires County Officials Over Stima Plaza Garbage Dumping

The Nairobi County Government is in the eye of a storm following an incident of illegal garbage dumping near Stima Plaza last week.

Appearing before the National Assembly’s Administration and National Security Committee, Sakaja vowed that the incident would not be repeated under his watch and revealed he had interdicted two senior revenue officers, James Sankale and John Ntoiti, while three other county employees, Augustine Otieno, Moses Gitari, and Alice Okare, have been arrested and charged with offenses including sabotage and robbery related to the incident.

“We have indicted two officers involved in this incident. Investigations are ongoing, and we will hold those responsible accountable,” he told MPs.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has also summoned Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi Chief Officer for Environment, for questioning.

Sakaja, while describing the act as uncouth and primitive, assured the public that such incidents would not recur under his watch.

He reiterated that while the county has its grievances with KPLC, including the power company’s refusal to settle land-related dues, the public should not be used as a pawn in this dispute.
