Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has held a meeting with Cooperatives and SMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, days after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula publicly urged him to join a new political alliance taking shape in Western Kenya.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Wednesday, January 28, 2025, Wamalwa revealed details of his engagement with the Cooperatives CS, describing it as a continuation of their long-standing working relationship. He emphasized their shared commitment to fostering unity and prosperity within the Mulembe Nation and across Kenya.

“Delighted to catch up with my brother CS Oparanya, with whom I have worked closely in the past and intend to continue working with in the future, in our quest for the unity and prosperity of the Mulembe Nation and the greater Kenyan Nation. Watch this space!” Wamalwa wrote.

The meeting comes in the wake of renewed calls by Speaker Wetang’ula for Wamalwa to abandon the opposition and join forces with him, Oparanya, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. Wetang’ula recently disclosed that discussions are underway to form a political alliance that would serve as a vehicle to consolidate Western Kenya’s political influence while rallying support for President William Ruto’s administration.

According to Wetang’ula, the envisioned coalition aims to bring together key leaders from the region under one umbrella to advance the long-sought unity of the Mulembe community. He noted that with Mudavadi and Oparanya already aligned with the government, Wamalwa’s inclusion would strengthen their collective voice and political bargaining power.

The latest developments signal a possible realignment in Western Kenya’s political landscape, as leaders from the region explore new partnerships ahead of the 2027 general election.
