Muslim faithful across the country turned up for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on two different days to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
Rains disrupted the Saturday morning open air prayers in Mombasa county leading to Muslims holding the prayers inside mosques.
Speaking on Friday after the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho confirmed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will field candidates in all elective positions except the presidential.
He promised to campaign for ODM candidates in all elective seats.
”We are at an advanced stage in negotiations over the presidential candidate where the party is likely not to field a candidate in the 2027 general election,” he pointed out.
Joho said he will roll up his sleeves to ensure ODM wins majority of elective posts ahead of the 2027 elections.
He was addressing journalists after attending Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Masjid Ummu Kulthum in Mvita constituency, Mombasa County.
The CS said despite not holding any key position in ODM he will put his act together to campaign for the party candidates ahead of the coming polls.
Joho told the media that ODM belongs to its stakeholders and not Individuals.
He declined to be dragged into the debate over the deputy president slot in next year’s election and instead promised to remain a staunch supporter and follower of ODM.
“We are on the negotiating table on the presidential candidate only and what remains is up for grabs in the coming polls,” Joho pointed out.
The Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary downplayed the campaign mood the country is country is in.
Joho said what the country is experiencing is a passing cloud as the official time for real campaigns has not arrived.
