Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has declared that Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i does not need any political intermediaries to secure votes in Nyeri County.

Speaking during a Jubilee Party rally in Nyeri Town on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, shortly after the launch of a new party office, Wambugu said Matiang’i enjoys direct support from the people of Nyeri and should not feel compelled to seek endorsement from any other leader.

“Ukikuja Nyeri, usiwahi ogopa; huku si lazima uletwe na mtu. Kura huku uko nazo, na tutakupatia direct,” Wambugu told Matiang’i, drawing cheers from the crowd.

The outspoken politician, known for his criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, made the remarks in Gachagua’s home county, further intensifying the political rivalry between the two.

Wambugu has been a persistent critic of Gachagua and the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) leader, despite repeated warnings from retired President Uhuru Kenyatta that Jubilee Party members should refrain from attacking fellow leaders. Kenyatta had previously cautioned that any member who publicly disparaged Gachagua risked expulsion from the party.

However, Wambugu’s defiance appears to be growing, with his latest remarks signaling a renewed push to position Matiang’i as a key political force in the Mount Kenya region ahead of the next general election.

The rally in Nyeri Town was attended by several Jubilee officials and supporters, marking a significant moment in the party’s efforts to re-establish its presence in Central Kenya.
