Bungoma Governor vows to support local sporting talent

Bungoma County governor Kenneth Lusaka has vowed to support local talents and nurture upcoming sportsmen and women in the entire county through gaming events.

Speaking during the closure of the first ever Rugby league tournament at Bungoma High School which was sponsored by Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, the county boss promised to work in partnership with the Senator and other leaders to bring to realization the dream of many talented youth.

“We shall work with all area MPs to support all round games and talents, as such, our stadium at Masinde Muliro and High Altitude Training Centre at Mt. Elgon should be completed by end of this year,” he mentioned.

Kimilili MNA Didimus Baraza also echoed the governors sentiments adding that if all government leaders in the region work in close partnership and set aside CDF funds for sports, there’ll be a new dawn for Bungoma young turks.

“Today I support these teams with cash Sh.100,000 and challenge us that we must begin to nurture our talents by participating in developing sporting activities in Kenya, not theoretically but practically like we’re seeing today,” reiterated Didimus.

The rugby teams despite being grateful for the tournament dubbed #waksnakazi presented their grievances to the leaders present beseeching them to financially and morally support their teams.

Jeff khaoya in charge of Bungoma Rugby Union decried insufficient funds to support the local teams.

“Kibabii,Webuye and Bungoma teams are in dire need of support from you, we registered ourselves as sub Unions so that we could access funding but it remains our greatest challenge to date,” decried Khaoya.

In his speech as he closed the tournament, Senator Wakoli thanked his fellow principals for heeding to the call and actualizing the event in a gracious manner.

“We’ll ensure this doesn’t end here, we shall fully support our talents and ensure Bungoma is always respected for this,this event will henceforth be held annually,” he declared.

Teams that participated in the tournament were from Nairobi, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology as well as Bungoma with MMUST taking lead.

The event was graced by among leaders Kanduyi MNA John Makali, Webuye East MNA Martin Pepela and  Kabuchai MNA Majimbo Kalasinga.
