A few months ago, the county government hired 3, 500 youths under Governor Sakaja’s ‘Nairobi Green Army’s in early preparations to mitigate flooding incidents in parts of the capital city due to El Nino rains, which had been predicted by weather experts.

The youths have since been involved in rigorous unclogging of blocked drainage systems in the various city suburbs.

They are also tasked with daily cleaning of the drainages and garbage collection, among other activities aimed at making Nairobi a clean city to regain its lost glory.

No serious incidents of flooding have been reported in the capital in the wake of the pounding rains. This lends credence to Governor Sakaja’s early initiatives to mitigate heavy rains that were anticipated.

The city governor is elated by the services being rendered by his ‘Nairobi Green Army’ environment team and has expressed confidence in their work so far.

On his Facebook page on Thursday 23rd November, 2023 Governor Sakaja wrote: “Our Green Army mko (you are) top. Nairobi is flowing. Thanks for the great work you are doing on our drainage system. Lazima iwork (it must work). Mkiwaona mtaa yenu wagotee (if you see them in your residential area appreciate them).
