DP Gachagua Leads Government Response to Garissa Flood Crisis

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, together with government officials and partners, visited Garissa County on Thursday to address the aftermath of severe flooding that has devastated numerous families.

During the visit, Gachagua stressed the urgent need for quick action in response to disasters like flooding. He highlighted the importance of providing both short-term assistance and long-term solutions to help communities recover and prevent future challenges.

“We comforted the families in Garissa County who have been affected by the floods and assessed the situation to find ways to help them. The severity of the floods shows that we need not only immediate help but also long-term plans to prevent similar problems in the future,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua pledged to collaborate with local leaders, government agencies, and partners to develop effective solutions and improve infrastructure to address flooding not only in Garissa but also in other parts of Northern Kenya.

“We will work with leaders from Garissa and other Northern Kenyan counties, as well as our partners, to create interventions and structures that will make our communities more resilient to future floods,” he affirmed.

Accompanying Gachagua were Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, and ASALs and Regional Development Principal Secretary Harsama Kello.

Also present were Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, Senator Abdul Haji, Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Deputy Governor Abdi Dakane, along with several Members of Parliament and local leaders representing affected communities.
