EABL Foundation Launches Ilbissil Water Project In Kajiado

EABL Foundation has launched a water project worth Ksh 7 million at ILBISSIL Girls school in Kajiado to access clean and fresh water.

The project largely aims to provide water and sanitation to children living in the dry lands of Kajiado.

This project is to accelerate our efforts towards water stewardship. The extreme temperatures in the region have affected many individuals not having access to water.

Through the water project, KBL will provide 1.5m³ of water, which is about 1,500 litres of water per hour which is sufficient for the school.

Speaking during the launch event, Joel Kamau, Commercial Director at Kenya Breweries Limited, stated: “Knowing the value of water to our businesses, we understand its value to communities is even greater. This is why we are dedicated to improving water availability and quality in our local communities in water-stressed areas such as this project. At least 1000 individuals from the community, largely Girls from ILBissil school, will now have access to water.”

The acceleration of the Water for Life project is part of KBL’s 10-year action plan dubbed Society 2030: Spirt of Progress.

The sustainability action plan dictates three pillars the company prioritises in this Decade of Action. These are: Promoting positive drinking, Championing inclusion and diversity, and Accelerating grain to glass sustainability, under which we have Preserve Water for Life pillar that guides the company’s contribution to water stewardship.

Eric Kiniti, Group Client Relations Director at KBL, said, “We have made considerable investments towards improving access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Lack of sanitation can be a barrier to individual prosperity, especially for girls for sanitation and hygiene purposes. We are glad that they will now have access to clean water, which will also benefit the community around.”

During the project launch, the headmistress of ILBissil Girls Secondary school expressed her gratitude saying, “We are happy with the support we have gotten from the EABL foundation to provide us with water. The water will benefit not only our girls but also the surrounding community that was facing challenges to access water.”

Recognizing that water is the basis of life and the most precious resource as a manufacturing company, we have completed several projects, including Ndhiwa, Magunga, and Okiki Amayo in Homa Bay; Ujimbe in Siaya; Lukume in Kakamega and Olembo in Kisumu County.

The projects are being implemented in partnership with the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA),
Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), and Amref Health Africa in Kenya. We commit to launching more water projects in the future and providing our communities with clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
