East Africa Farmers take the lead in 2nd Edition of Fair Ngoma Awards

Oserian Development Company and Kibenge Coffee Farmers Cooperative Society were among the big winners at the 2nd Edition of the Fair Ngoma Awards. 

Both entities scooped two awards in the 14 categories under consideration. 

Oserian Development Company was recognised as best in the Gender Committee of the Year category as well as the Premium Committee of the year category, 

On the other hand, Uganda’s Kibenge Coffee Farmers Cooperative Society scooped the best in value addition to products category and emerged the best at the most entreprising youth category. 

Other winners include Tunisia’s Tomato producers’ Desert Joy, who also scooped two awards, that include workers rights champions of the year, and climate award. 

Enviromental Champion of the year went to Flamingo Horticulture Kenya, while Journey’s End scooped  most supportive management. 

Societe Cooperative Agricole Dawori D’alepe won Income Diversification Award while the Social  Compliance Category went to  Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Union. ECAM Cooperative went with most innovative premium project.  

The awards are named the FAIR (Fairtrade Africa Impact Recognition) Ngoma Awards. 

Ngoma is a Swahili word meaning drums. 

Drums are a revered instrument in Africa with a rich history and play a significant role in the definition of the African culture. Its influence resonates across the continent bringing togetherness, a common pulse and a common rhythm. 

We drum to recognize the fruit of their labour and farming as a business, we drum to recognize the role they individually play in determining their own destiny.
