Equity Bank to plant 300,000 trees in Mombasa

Equity Group Holdings (EGH) has plans to plant 300,000 trees in Mombasa county during this year’s planting season countrywide.

Chief Commercial Officer Polycarp Igathe said they have partnered with 47 county governments during this year’s planting season.

“We have resolved to move out of our banking sector every Saturday to engage in tree planting during the season,” he pointed out.

Igathe said the institution believes in energy and environmental management including food production and agriculture.

He spoke when he led the local community in tree planting at Marimani Mixed Secondary School in Kisauni constituency, Mombasa county.

The EGH Chief Commercial Officer reiterated they are happy to work with learning intuitions through the Wings to Fly program.

Igathe lauded the program which he said benefits students drawn from the county.

He told journalists apart from banking and environment they have also invested in medical care.

“The institution has constructed quality health facilities and the tour of the school has nothing to do with the challenges we are facing,” he pointed out.

In his welcome remarks Mombasa deputy governor William Kingi reiterated that EGH is on the frontline in ensuring environmental conservation.

He said the ceremony at the learning institution is courtesy of the banking institution which is in line with the county government’s target to plant almost one million trees annually.

“The county government has partnered with the banking institution to ensure success in the conservation of the environment,” he pointed out.

The Deputy Governor told journalists they were able to plant 2000 trees during the day’s exercise which is in line with the county government’s target.

Kingi said the county government’s exercise at the learning institution was in good faith and refuted claims they had a hidden agenda.
