Foundation Partners with KFS to Green the Country

The Dedan Kimathi Foundation is partnering with Kenya Forest Service to increase forest cover at a time when calls to mitigate climate change have reached fever pitch.
In this respect, the Foundation’s CEO Evelyn Kimathi held discussions with Chief Conservator of Forests Julius Kamau and the interaction was centred on appreciating the ongoing partnership between the two organizations in tree growing across various parts of the country.
“While stock taking on the achievements gained, our meeting observed that through the partnership up to 1.6 million tree seedlings have been planted so far in fulfilment of their commitment to growing 30 million tree seedlings over a decade beginning from 2020,” Said Ms. Kimathi
Ms Kimathi also appreciated the technical support by the KFS officers and 1,000,001 tree seedlings commitment by the Service towards the initiative which has been growing trees in public schools, and catchment areas including the coastal mangrove areas in Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kajiado and Lamu Counties.
She also lauded the partnership between the two institutions that has enabled the Service to leverage the foundation’s people mobilization around conservation activities.
The meeting also appreciated the conservation synergy between KFS and the Foundation with the Kenya Defence Forces in tree planting activities.
“We have yet again planned to join hands for a forthcoming tree planting exercise in Ragia forest station in Kiambu County which will bring together KFS, the Foundation and KDF.”
