Deputy President William Ruto scoffed at remarks that he was undermining President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration with an ill motive.

He urged his critics to at least respect him despite not supporting his presidential bid to succeed him in the general elections.’I have no plans to topple President Kenyatta and I wonder how I can do that to the government I had fought to form,’ he pointed out.

Ruto dismissed the sentiments on social and mainstream media as propaganda aimed to tarnish his name ahead  of the polls.

He spoke in Kilifi south constituency in Kilifi county on his way to Malindi from Mombasa county. The DP asked his critics to give him a break and not to involve him in cheap politics which he claimed are baseless and aimed at tarnishing his name.

Ruto who is the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Presidential candidate warned those behind the cheap propaganda that they will tear the country apart.

He urged them to respect his candidature in the race to succeed Kenyatta.’I am the one who helped the Head of State in his re-election bid against ODM leader Raila Odinga during the last polls and I wonder how it is possible for me to go against him,’ he pointed out.

The UDA Presidential candidate said the forthcoming general  elections are not a beauty contest but the outcome will be based on performance on the political stage.

Ruto said he is ready to be put on a scale to measure his development record and performance score card ahead of the polls against Raila’s development record.

He added those against his bid are good at cheap politics to try to undermine his bid.

‘My political opponents lack plans and ideas and that’s why they have resorted to cheap propaganda,’ he added.
