Incompetence Behind Disbandment of Hon Reki’s Water Committee

Shortly after Nairobi City County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi disbanded the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and water committee, shocking revelations emerged.

It was reported that Redson Otieno, the Chairperson of the Water Committee and also the ward representative for Ngei, allegedly disappeared with 18 million shillings intended for a committee members’ international trip.

The funds, provided by the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC), were meant to facilitate training and the trip for committee members.

Upon discovering this development, the Assembly leadership took swift action.

They opted to dissolve the committee affected by the scandal and initiate the formation of a new one, with a different chairperson at the helm.

This decision was likely made to ensure accountability and restore public trust in the oversight functions of the Nairobi City County Assembly.

The incident underscores the importance of transparency and integrity in public office, highlighting the consequences of financial misconduct and the need for stringent measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

“We have lost faith in a leader who has no mercy to his members. This is a great move by the leadership and should serve as lesson to other chairpersons of same behavior and greed. Many times Otieno chaired a meeting while drunk, I retaliate that he is not fit for the chairperson position,” a member who sought for anonymity told the media.
