Kangemi residents receive huge relief from Lions Club International.

It was song and dance for Nairobi’s Kangemi residents who received foodstuffs from Lions Club International worth 2.5 million.

Over 500 families received foodstuffs with each family receiving one bale of maize floor,10 kg rice,7kg beans,2kg ndengu, Cooking fat, salt, giant panga soap, facemasks, sanitisers, among other items.

Lions club international Director Dr.Manoj Shah disclosed that the cost of distribution was worth Ksh.2.5 million.

Shah who was flanked by several members from the Lions Eye Hospital said they decided to offer the food stuffs owing to the biting Corona-19 pandemic that has left many families hopeless and devastated.

Speaking at the Kihumbuini primary school ground in Kangemi,Shah said they will continue to extend similar food distribution to the needy with the coming weekend heading to Mathare Valley for a similar exercise.

He urged well-wishers and those who are financially stable to help the needy in view of the pandemic that has affected the economy and left many families grounded and loss of jobs.

“The next few weeks,he added,we shall go full blast by visiting various locations that include Mathare Valley on Saturday for a similar exercise.

“We have 3 million worth of foodstuff which will run for the next couple of weeks.We are serious and passionate about the welfare of the suffering families and vulnerable children.” He noted.

“We highly appreciate, he added, any kind of support from partners and well-wishers geared to assist the needy and community development efforts”.

The colourful event was graced by Kihumbuini school teaching staff led by Deputy head teacher Jane Nyongesa, Josephine Koli, Silvanus Malelemo Parents Association Chairman Francis Imasira among school students.
