Kenya has a bright future in tennis that needs only to be nurtured to go to another higher level, widely travelled Tennis head coach Rosemary Owino(pictured) has said.
Speaking over the weekend at the Karen’s KCB leadership centre,Owino regretted the effects of Covid -19 pandemic that slowed down tennis activities but insisted the sport has a bright future going with the way the youthful players displayed their work rate in the pitch.
Flanked by assistant tennis coach Collins Abala, Owino said she was delighted the over 70 kids who participated had a nice outing despite coming back after a long layoff following the dreaded pandemic.
“What was important for us was coming back to enjoy and having fun, socialising, bonding after a long break that was marred by the Covid-19 pandemic. The presence of our sponsor’s added more flavour, excitement and also motivation to the young kids.This is the way to go,its a win win situation for everybody,I will just advice the kids to remain focused, work hard in the pitch but not forget their books in the class and follow their teachers instructions”she said.
Some of the sponsors in the one day event included Manar Alomran, brand Africa-creative village, Booch, Tennis Kenya, and Kaylan -tours & Travel Ltd, NMS Advocates and Farmers Choice respectively.
In the Under 10 boys category, Michael Ochieng beat Charlie Mboya by 10-8,10-6 sets while in the U-10 Girls, Natashe Shaniz reigned supreme by overwhelming Amani Birungi by 11-9,10-6 sets.
Chantel Nabwire emerged winner in the U-8 after defeating Maila Gikunda 10-8 and 10-4 sets.
Winners were later awarded with trophies and hampers.
