Kenya Navy captain wins golf tournament in Mombasa

A Kenya defence forces officer registered her first victory this year after beating over 100 golfers during the chairman’s prize golf tournament to be crowned overall winner.

Mesaidi Maarifa posted 43 points to become the overall winner of the Mombasa prize 2023 tournament courtesy of outgoing club chairman Ken Mwangi played at the golf course.

Playing off 31 handicap she managed to beat the odds during the one-day tournament played at the Mombasa club over the weekend.

The tournament played under harsh weather saw George Thama take the men’s  award after posting 41 points playing off 13 handicap.

Stephen Kiruku, playing off 24 handicap, managed to post 39 points to scoop the men’s runners-up title.

Limuru golfer Kamau Kuria scooped the tournament’s third trophy after posting 37 points on countback.

The visiting golfer was playing off 25 handicap as the fourth award was won by cheerful  golfer John Mugo after posting 37 points playing off 27 handicap.

Nyali country club’s veteran golfer Truphena Oyaro  won the ladies’ title after posting 38 points playing off 12 handicap.

Improved golfer Winfred Ndunge playing off 31 handicap posted 36 points to win the ladies’ runners-up award.

Speaking during the colorful awards ceremony, the outgoing club chairman announced the members club will hold its annual general meeting [AGM] this week with the main agenda being conducting an election to pick new club officials.

He pointed out that during his three year tenure he was able to achieve the club’s successful completion of the first  irrigation scheme  involving trenching and laying of water pipes.

“And also the installation of sprinklers in all the course club’s fairway,” he pointed out.
