KSB Rolls Out Empowerment Program for Members

The Kenya Society for the Blind is keen to empower persons with visual impairment in the country through an empowerment program. The Executive Director of the Society Samson Waweru says the program is dubbed Digital Accessibility Program.

“We can only empower persons with disability if we remove barriers to their inclusion in everyday life activities.”

Mr. Waweru alludes that they are doing this together with like-minded organisations.

“In collaboration with inspire Africa, APDK, UKaid, the ICT Authority and the Kenya National Library Services Kenya society for the blind is proud to launch the training of the digital accessibility program training which will provide the necessary skills to persons with visual impairment to access government websites and services. KSB is starting with a cohort of 200 trainees to be trained on how to access digital content through computers and assistive technologies screen readers and screen magnification.”

The Executive Director Mr Waweru also castigated the recent humiliation by the IEBC of the visually impaired presidential aspirant Reuben Kigame.

“Persons with disabilities should be treated with dignity and decorum as it’s such a disgrace that IEBC can demean Mr Reuben Kigame instead of assisting him.”

Mr Waweru continued to call upon Kenyans to consider giving persons living with disabilities a platform so that they can access government opportunities and live a life like their able-bodied counterparts.
