A senior counsel in Mombasa registered his first victory and was crowned overall winner during the 5th edition of the annual Sanlam Group of Companies golf tournament played at Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa county.

Mburu Kariuki posted 41 points on countback while playing on improved 15 handicap during the successful one-day tournament held in Nyali constituency.

Kariuki, who is former Mombasa golf club chairman, scored 19 points on the first nine holes and 22 points on the second nine holes before being declared the winner.

A businessman Jamal Soud won the trophy in the men’s category after managing to score 41points.

Soud, playing on 24 handicap, scored 20 points on the first nineholes and 21 points on the second nine holes before winding up.

A clearing agent Benard Simuyu posted 40 points on count back to win the runners up trophy in the men’s category playing on 17 handicap.

Simuyu scored 20 points on both the first and second nine holes before getting the award.

Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] public officer Charles Odoo won the third award in the men’s category after positing 40 points.

Odoo, who last week won Malik Bags top prize at the same course, played on 21 handicap and scored 22 points on the first nine and 18 points on the second nine holes.

The golf and country club ladies captain Mary Kandu bagged the ladies winner trophy after posting 39points.

Kandu, playing on 14 handicap, scored16 points on the first nine holes and 23 points on the second nine holes to be declared the winner.

The ladies runners up award went to Provis Odhiambo who managed to get 36 points playing on 28 handicap.

She scored 19 points on the first nine holes and 17 points on the second nine holes.

The senior ward during the ceremony went to Bharat Chaniyara after scoring 39 points.

Sanlam Group of Companies chief executive officer [CEO] Patrick Tumbo won in the staff award category after posting 36 points playing on 30 handicap.

The guest award trophy went to Thomas Bisonge after posting 30 points playing on 26 handicap.
