Matatus and buses will be banned from picking and dropping Passengers at Petrol Stations if a motion before the Nairobi County Assembly sails through.

The motion tabled by Umoja 1 MCA Mark Mugambi will be restricting Matatus and all the PSV vehicles from operating in Petrol Stations attracting heavy fines to those who will contravene.

Mugambi who was once the deputy chair of the Public Roads and Construction says public vehicles have continuously violated public regulatory frameworks as well as safety standards for passengers by establishing and utilizing petrol Stations as drop and pick terminals.

“Petrol Stations are considered as danger zones. And that’s why there are signages in Petrol Stations that require you to switch off your engine and phone. Sadly within the CBD we have matutus that have colluded with Nairobi County officials and have made them as pick and drop points. Those are not gazzetted terminals,” said Mugambi.

“Am sure EPRA does not approve the same. I think this is just a crooked arrangement with Crooked city counsel security personnel. This is endangering the life of passengers. We have by laws that stipulate designate picking and dropping zones,” he added.

So far four petrol stations will be at the receiving end of this legislations should it be passed , one at Afya Centre, two at Racecourse Road one in OTC and another on in Koinange.
