Matiangi asks security heads to facilitate BBI implementation

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has asked the top security heads in the country to facilitate the implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) at the same time also warning police against being misused by politicians during the ongoing countrywide BBI debate.

Addressing participants during the closing ceremony of the two-day workshop for Regional and County Commissioners at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi, Matiang’i said the security sector is in full support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his stand on the BBI report debate.

“We support the BBI but in the field, we will facilitate political leaders as they discuss the matter. It is not us to lead the debate. The leaders will lead the debate,” Matiang’i said.

Early this year, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leader Raila Odinga, and Matiangi vowed to rally Kenyans to support the recommendations of the Building Bridges Initiative report.

Speaking at the Gusii Sports Club during the first leaders’ consultative meeting to deliberate on the report, Matiang’i and Odinga urged Kenyans to carefully go through the Report and air out the recommendations.

The ODM Leader told participants who included 11 governors, 78 MPs, MCAs, elders, religious leaders, women and youth leaders and other professionals from across the Nyanza region, that BBI is the only bridge to take Kenyans to the proverbial Promised Land.

On his part, CS Matiang’i who was accompanied by his Devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa urged the region leaders to maintain the rare unity they have shown in presenting common front so that their residents can reap the fruits of development.

“This is the first time we as the people of Nyanza are sitting together to deliberate on the direction we should take,” the CS stated then.
