Meru leaders in meeting to end stalemate

The row between Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and members of the county assembly (MCAs) will be resolved soon after a series of reconciliatory metings.
Meru Senator Murungi Kathuri said county elders have started talks with the MCAs and the governor.
He said last weekend elders under the Nchere Nchuki had began meetings to reconcile the warring camps to resolve the stalemate.
“There is still an avenue to iron out their differences instead of an exchange of harsh words and talk of impeachment,” he pointed out.
Kathuri said the move the MCAs took to impeach the governor was premature.
He was addressing journalists after opening the 4th Senate business committee induction retreat at Serena beach hotel in Mombasa connty.
The Senate Deputy Speaker said he is optimistic the poitical differences will be resolved and nomalcy will be restored.
Kathuri pointed out Kirinyaga governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru had a session with her embattled counterpart and Meru county assembly elders to resolve the row.
He said the council of Nchuri Ncheke was in attendance.
“I am at least happy there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he added.
Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot told journalists despite the matter finding its way to the Senate it will be premature to comment on the fiasco at the moment.
He said there is still more room for the MCAs and the governor to iron out their differences.
“It’s hardily two months since they were elected and to comment on the quarrel will be premature,” he pointed out.
The Senate Majority leader downplayed the unfolding drama saying the dispute that has emerged is reconciliable.
