Mombasa Businessman Wins Crown Paints Golf Tournament

Posting 41 points on count back Aly Jamal was crowned overall winner during this year’s Crown Paints golf series held at Nyali golf and country club in Mombasa county.

Jamal who is a businessman in the county bagged 18 points on the first nine holes and 23 points on the second nine holes before being crowned winner at the weekend.

He was playing on improved 18 handicap in the tournament that attracted Nairobi woman representative elect Esther Passaris among other participants.

Michael Mbugua won the men’s title after posting 41 points when he bagged 19 points on the first nine holes and 22 points on the second nine holes during the event that attracted almost 100 golfers.

Men’s runners up title was won by Zafir Imriaz after posting 40 points on count back playing on 20 handicap after bagging 20 points each on the first and second nine holes.

The third award in the men’s category went to Zafir Din after posting 40 points playing on 25 handicap during the open tournament where he bagged 23 points on the first nine holes and 17 points on the second nine holes.

Club member Fahmy Bajaber won the fourth award after posting 39 points on count back playing on 14 handicap when he bagged 17 points on the first nine holes and  22 points on the second nine holes.

Veteran golf player Florence Karim won the ladies title after posting 40 points when she bagged 20 points each on the first and second nine holes.

The ladies runners up award went to Lena Breither after posting 39 points while the third award went to Helen Wanjiru after posting 38 points.

Speaking alongside at the event, Passaris told journalists she has taken time off and advantage of the tournament to seek votes for immediate former Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir who is ODM Mombasa gubernatorial candidate in Monday’s election.

She sent a passionate appeal to county golfers to rally behind Abdulswamad’s quest and cautioned them the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, Sarai Omar lacks the numbers in the county assembly to run the county government.

 “Out of 30 Mombasa members of county assembly Azimio coalition under presidential candidate Raila Odinga has secured 26  seats,” she pointed out.
