Mombasa show 2023 preparations are in top gear

President William Ruto is expected to officially open this year’s Mombasa international show next month.

Agricultural Society of Kenya [ASK] Coast branch chairperson Anisa Abdallah said according to the tentative program and tradition the Head of State performs the official opening of the five-day event.

She disclosed the five-day event  commences from September 6 to 10  and President Ruto is the invited chief guest.

“At the moment preparations for the five day international event are at an advanced stage,” she pointed out.

Anisa said the preparations for the show are on top gear and they are working around the clock.

She was addressing the media after taking Chief Executive Officer at Bandari DT Sacco Ltd Joseph Otieno Bee on a fact finding mission ahead of this year’s Mombasa international show at Mkomani ground in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.

The ASK Coast branch chairperson said apart from trade fair exhibitors, both local and international, the focus will also be on maritime and the blue economy.

Anisa told the media the five-day event  will embrace new technology on farming and livestock.

She lauded the government reduction on fertilizer charges which is a boost to famers.

“The Kenya  Kwanza administration has focused on agricultural products  to bring the cost of living down,” she added,

The ASK boss urged the farmers and entrepreneurs to make use of the facility as a demonstration site  and for economic development.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer at Bandari DT Sacco Ltd  told the media the 2020 and 2021 outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic had affected the annual  event.

Bee said the pandemic had affected the preparation of the event in the said years.

He said this year’s events are being organized in the best and conducive environment after the pandemic.

“The commuting and traveling down to the port city is best perk with schools closed for the second term vacation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mombasa international  show exhibitors forum will be held this weekend.

According to a signed letter the exhibitors and stakeholders are invited for a second  forum to start preparations for this year’s event.   

“This year’s  theme is Promoting Climate Smart  Agriculture and Trade  Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” she pointed out.
